Problem Note 42746: Performance degradation in the SAS 9.2 Pooled Workspace Server when querying SAS® Information Maps

DetailsAboutRate It

In SAS® 9.2, users may notice a decrease in SAS® BI Dashboard performance over time when querying SAS® Information Maps. This decrease in performance is due to a slow memory leak that occurs when the SAS BI Dashboard calls on the SAS Pooled Workspace Server. To alleviate this problem, a reasonable recycle parameter should be set to prevent individual server leaks from becoming a problem. This parameter can be set in SAS® Metadata Repository in order to automatically recycle the server after a specified number of clients. The default value is 0.

A reasonable recycle value is 100, which would recycle the server after every 100 clients. This avoids the problem and does not appear to cause any significant performance impact. It is possible that a higher value, such as 1000, may also work with even less performance impact.

If users are experiencing this behavior, it is recommended that the SAS Administrator set a reasonable recycle value for the server, using the two previously mentioned values (100 and 1000) as the lower and upper bounds for the value.

To change the Recycle Activation Limit, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to SAS Management Console as the unrestricted user
  2. On the Plug-ins tab, navigate to Server ManagerSAS Application Servers (SASApp)Logical Pooled Workspace ServerPooled Workspace Server
  3. Right–click the Pooled Workspace Server and select Properties. The Properties dialog box opens.
  4. Select the Options tab
  5. Click the Advanced Options... button. This brings up the Advanced Options dialog box.
  6. Select the Load Balancing tab
  7. Change the Recycle activation limit to a value between 100 and 1000
